Ice packs and Cold Packs - Cold Therapy -
The ice packs and cold compresses are used to manage the symptoms of inflammation - pain, tenderness, redness and swelling. The pack ice conditions and cold pack are often used interchangeably. However, some people refer to cold compresses, especially Hydrocollator commercial cold packs, as a way to provide cold therapy . In physical therapy or other of the two may be used depending on what is readily available.

Ice Pack

An ice pack is usually used to treat acute injuries where pain and swelling are present. To make an ice pack, crushed ice or ice cubes are placed in a plastic bag and wrapped with a wet towel and applied to the injured body part. Crushed ice is best ice as the former can be easily molded to the injured area.

Your physiotherapist can cover the pack with a dry towel to minimize loss of cold in the environment. How long the ice pack is applied may vary. But often, 20 minutes of application is sufficient to meet its physiological and therapeutic effects.

Cold Pack

as ice packs, cold compresses are used for acute injuries. Cold compresses are also called cold Hydrocollator packs or cold packs trading gel, available in different sizes

NOTE : .. If you have hypersensitivity to cold or circulation problems, ice or cold compresses should be avoided. It is important that you tell your therapist about the conditions you may have when cold therapy can be cons-indicated.

joint stiffness - About - Joint stiffness
The stiffness is a symptom of an underlying illness or disease in which there is limited joint range of motion. Joint stiffness is a common complaint among people with arthritis, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. In some cases, it can be experienced by people who have been immobilized for a long time or those who are unable to move their articulation, as in paralysis.

In most cases, joint stiffness is accompanied by other signs and symptoms, depending on the underlying disease or injury. Some of them may include
  • Pain
  • Tenderness when you touch or tap the attached
  • hot joint redness and
  • Difficulty move the joint
  • muscle weakness
the causes of joint stiffness

joint stiffness can be caused by many conditions or disorders . It can be caused by arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout or osteoarthritis. In some cases, it can result from a recent joint injury or one of the structures surrounding the joint. Joint stiffness is common after a period of immobilization or not to move a joint for a long time because of the pain, paralysis or bone or joint injury.

Others may also experience stiffness as they age. As people age, the natural lubrication in the joint can reduce and structures in and around the joint is being tightened stiffness.

What you can do

Applying heat can help relieve your joint pain and stiffness. However, if you have symptoms of active inflammation, such as pain and tenderness on, swelling, redness of joints and warm in common, it is better to deal first with the application of ice or cold therapy. The application of heat during that time can make your symptoms worse.
  • What cold therapy?
  • RICE therapy for minor injuries
  • Applying ice for a sports injury
  • the application of heat for sports injuries

When the swelling has gone, you can apply heat to help relieve the pain and stiffness of joints. Perform simple range of motion exercises after applying heat.
  • Types of range of motion exercises

Some people may benefit to perform exercises in the pool. Your physiotherapist specializing in aquatic physical therapy can help you determine the best exercises for you while in the pool.

Treatment options

Sometimes the stiffness is not the only problem. Additional treatments may be required, such as
  • Taking over-the-counter non-steroidal drugs anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or prescription painkillers
  • Injections steroids
  • or Ice and heat therapy
  • soft tissue and joint mobilization
  • using aid or walking assistance device
  • Exercises
  • Physiotherapy
  • occupational therapy
  • surgery

your doctor will be able to help you find the best treatment option for your particular condition. Often, the treatments you receive will be a combination of therapies.

Need surgery

Surgery may be recommended by your doctor if your joint stiffness and other symptoms persist they affect your daily activities. the joint surgery, however, is considered only if conservative treatments do not relieve your symptoms, your symptoms worsen despite non-surgical treatments, or if you have joint damage.

The type of surgery you receive depends on several factors, including your age, the severity of your injury, overall health, and needs.

Your doctor will discuss the surgical options are available for your particular condition.

physical therapy may be able to help you relieve your joint stiffness and other symptoms. Depending on the particular condition that you have, your physical therapist can provide a combination of therapeutic modalities, including
  • Cold therapy
  • electrotherapy and ultrasound therapy
  • soft tissue and joint mobilization; and
  • Exercises .

It is preferable that you consult a doctor if you have severe joint symptoms or if you have no apparent reason stiffness for diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Remember that the stiffness is a symptom of an underlying disease. Find the real cause of your joint stiffness is needed so that appropriate treatment interventions can be made.

Joint stiffness and pain - About joint pain and stiffness -
pain and stiffness are two of the most common symptoms of arthritic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. In others, the pain and stiffness can occur after joint injury or damage to one of the surrounding towns structures.

Other signs and symptoms

According to the type of injury or common condition, pain and joint stiffness may be accompanied by other signs and symptoms, which may include one or more of the following
  • seal is hot to the touch and redness
  • Swelling
  • weakness of the muscles surrounding the joint
  • common Sense dérobement when attempting to move
  • Difficulty moving the involved member
  • limited joint range of motion
  • obvious deformity following a fall or a blow to joint

Causes

pain and stiffness are common in people with arthritis. However, these symptoms are also common in sports injuries, car accidents, and falls when the joint structures are damaged.

After a period of immobilization, from a cast or splint or condition causing paralysis, you may have pain when moving your arm and your spouse / s can become stiff.

It is important that the cause of your pain and joint stiffness be determined by your doctor for proper treatment to begin.

Treatment options

the type of treatment you receive will depend on the symptoms you have and the severity of your injury. In most cases, your doctor will provide you with a combination of treatments. Treatments for pain and joint stiffness may include a combination of one of
  • Ice or heat packet
  • pool therapy following
  • Ultrasound
  • Exercises
  • Physiotherapy
  • apparatus assistance Use / s
  • Suffering drugs

your doctor may recommend surgery to your town, like [surgery hip replacement if conservative treatments are not effective in managing your symptoms or if you joined severely damaged. Your doctor will discuss the surgical options available for your specific condition.
